my step-father contested my uncle's trust and it was settled before trial. do the rest of those named as beneificaries of the trust get their percentage of the estate before my step-father's settlement money is paid or after it's paid? it's a big difference and i'm not sure what to do.

Dear Julie,

You did not give us enough information to answer your question precisely.
Generally speaking, a very small number of trusts are contested. As far as we know, depending on the reason the trust was contested and settled, the percentage of all beneficiaries under the trust will be reduced to satisfy the settlement.
This will happen after all debts (if any) of the grantor (settlor) are satisfied.

Please be advised that Legal Helpmate is not a law firm and we do not give legal advice to the public. We strongly recommend you to discuss this matter with an attorney.

Best regards,
