construction promise to pay/ skip and run

When ther was alot of remodel work done for a guy with a promise to pay when the house sold and the house was sold but the guy skipped without a trace what can one do?

Dear sheila,

The answer to your question depends on many circumstances: was the agreement oral or written; your state law; were you a general contractor or subcontractor, etc.

Basically, before the house was sold you could have placed a”mechanic's lien” on the property. Mechanic's lien allows an unpaid contractor to start a foreclosure action and force the sale of the home.
As far as the house is sold, we strongly recommend you to consult your local attorney with regards to cause of action you might have against the homeowner.
