"You may have heard of credit repair companies, which offer to help improve or fix your credit history for a fee. Credit repair companies often claim that they can 'clean up' or 'erase' a bad credit record and help you get credit. First, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, credit repair companies cannot do anything that you cannot do for yourself at little or no cost. You do not have to pay a credit repair company to learn what is in your file or to correct inaccurate or incomplete information."
The truth is, no one can legally remove accurate and timely negative information from a Credit Report. But the law does allow the American Consumer to request an reinvestigation of information in your files that you can dispute as inaccurate or incomplete. There is no charge for this. Everything a credit repair clinic can do for you legally, you can do for yourself at little or no cost. According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you are entitled to a free copy of your Credit Report if you've been denied credit within the last 30 days. You can also dispute mistakes or outdated items to a Credit bureau for free. You must submit your dispute in writing, along with any supporting documentation
