bifurcation
The act of a judge in dividing issues before a trial so that one issue will be ruled upon before hearing evidence on the other issue. See bifurcate.

bigamy
The condition of having two wives or two husbands at the same time. A marriage in which one of the parties is already legally married is bigamous, void, and ground for annulment.

bilateral contract
An agreement in which the parties exchange promises for each to do something in the future. "Susette Seller promises to sell her house to Bobby Buyer and Buyer promises to pay Seller $100,000 for it."

What is commonly called a "check" by which the signer requires the bank to pay a third party a sum of money. This is a holdover from the days when a person would draw up a "bill of exchange."
