Advance Directives that is known as a Health Care Power of Attorney, or a Health Care Proxy. The person you designate as your Proxy is legally empowered to make decisions regarding your health care that are not covered elsewhere in your Advance Directives. You are not required to designate someone, but doing so gives you the peace of mind that a trusted friend or loved one has your best interests in mind. It also helps your doctors, since they have someone they can go to if decisions need to be made beyond what is covered in your Advance Directive.
